Day 7 Feb. 21 - Driving east

Feb. 21 - A day of driving
(OK, I think this isn't going to work as far as the map order goes, but I'll forge on as though the blog understands what I want.)
We departed the Villa Playa Larga at 6:30AM with our breakfast of ham and cheese sandwiches on board. We made a quick stop at La Turba on our way out in the hopes of finding the elusive Zapata Wren. We heard the bird, and Cooby actually had a fleeting glimpse, but we were basically thwarted in this effort.
After re-boarding the bus, we settled in for a marathon drive. We stopped at 11:45 for lunch and were back on the bus by 12:30. We did some very low-quality birding from the bus as Palacio sped east on the autopista, garnering excellent views of only Turkey Vultures and Cattle Egrets!
Jesus pointed out something entirely unexpected as we zipped through Sancti Spiritus province. He said that once we crossed the provincial border into Ciego de Ávila, the autopista would end and we'd be on small roads again for the rest of the journey! This was a serious setback because it meant that the question, "Are we there yet?" wouldn't have an affirmative answer for many more hours!
(I've noticed that the maps seem to be shifting around all over the place, so I'm going to publish this and put the final map [which I could not upload into this post] into the next post.)
My apologies if you have to play detective to see our route.
