Day 6 PM - Las Salinas NWR
Feb. 20 Afternoon - Our bus dropped us off so we'd have a short walk into the Refuge. It was quite windy, but we forged on, anticipating the shorebirds and waders we were about to see. All of sudden, a gust of wind lifted Lar's hat off his head and plunked it down about 5m from where we were standing. Ed made a valiant effort to retrieve it, getting only the reward of severely muddy shoes. The wind carried the hat, slowly, gracefully, and sinking-ly, well beyond anyone's reach. Perhaps someone, in the days that have elapsed since the event, found it and now has a much-loved straw hat.
